Wanted GPW knuckle

Post by mugginsmoo » Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:57 pm

I'm searching for a Drivers side (left) serviceable knuckle, steering arm and tie rod.
"F" marked preferred, but anything is better than what's there.

someone has at some point swapped some CJ parts onto the drivers side only, thus screwing up the steering geometry.
so my options are either swap the other side to CJ (just as hard to find here in OZ) or go for the more factory route

this is what needs replacing here on the left (AKA CJ). See the difference in the tie end placement

I thought the steering arm cast into the knuckle was only a CJ onwards thing??

they do have very different steering geometry too, the tie rod end is about an inch further out-board on the GPW arm.
even though they work they aren't really interchangeable, unless you do both

I'm sure you have that around the wrong way??
the cast arm is more a 45-46 item, where as the bolt on arm is a 42 item, same age as the car.
regardless one of them needs to go

I see the bolt on one going back to 1940,

Have you seen postage rates to australia lately? for covid, only express packages going unless you have a mail forwarding co. right now its $150 bucks for 10 lbs, no flat rate available, so before i look do you have a game plan,

Adam,
yes I'm aware that freight to OZ has become "highway robbery" and is your freight situation that bad, that only the express post is moving??
can't say we feel that here, its business as usual, although it takes a day or so longer.

I'm also well aware that there is a large Aussie contingent on here too, so I'm preferring to find local but since everything else has to come form overseas might as well look there too.

Alot of confusion. ONLY the ww2 jeeps have the steering or pitman arm mounted separately to the top four bolts that secure the top bearing cap pivot for the front crossmember. I have a couple extras. I will check. I just rebuilt jeep. So I am familiar with the rebuilding process.

Post here in the states is fine, we still have regular priority mail, stuff seems to come and go faster as of lately. To Canada, post is taking forever, last one wass 2 months. So i dont know why only express is available to austrailia and the island to your east.

I saw the little white truck at 0700 yesterday morning, and mail is faster than ever; not sure why.
And on Sundays they have a contract to deliver for Amazon.
I got a package from Canada in 3 days, two weeks ago, but that was UPS. Not USPS.

Hey Mugginsmoo
Do you now Andy Seymour who's also in Victoria ? I'm sure he'll be able to either fix you up with the correct wartime parts, or if not he'll no doubt put you onto someone who can supply. Look him up at 'The Brake Place' Berwick Vic.
regards Nick
