Hello Awol,

No I don't know off hand, but I am sure in is on the G somewhere .

If I can find it I will post when I do.

If I had to guess I would say the Script GPWs all had them ?

Best Regards,
Ray
My June 6, 1942 script GPW 37718 does not have brass latches. I assume the windshield is original only because a stateside jeep that probably came to the public sector from Great Lakes Naval Training Center or KI Sawyer in the UP (Michigan's upper peninsula, yooperland) wouldn't have as much of a chance at changing out a windshield as one overseas in combat where many windshields were actually removed for combat duty. All assumptions, but I've had the jeep for 30 years so it wasn't changed out after everybody decided that the brass was worth its weight in gold. Jeepdraw says "mid '42" so there's that too.

Hello Jeff,

That is a great date for your 42 scipt jeep !!
I think the last known Ford Script Jeeps were in late July, 1942 !
My August 6, 42 GPW is non script.
I assume it varies by plant, when the script bodies were used up.
I also assume that is the case for the brass windshield latches, as well as, the 1 solid dish rim that are often found on 42 GPWs.

Awol, there are new, very nice , it is reported, repro windshields arriving from India.
This might be good if you need a windshield sooner than later.

Keep looking on ebay, fb marketplace, craigslist, etc., and you should be able to find an original to restore.

Best Regards,
Ray

I was able to find an early original outer windshield. Now I still need the inner one. If anyone has and original one or knows one then please PM me.

The latches is the next thing. My script has DoD 28 May 42. So will that still be brass latches?

I don't know what the cut off is, but I assume it's early due to the importance of brass for more important war time needs.

Here's some sources (Ron doesn't have them listed) for A-2227 reproductions;

https://www.desmetjeep.com/product/deta ... eld-brass/

https://www.armyjeepparts.com/p-809-win ... -2227.aspx

https://www.ebay.com/itm/203706499336

one who shall not be named has them too.

Anyone who has or knows an inner windshield frame for me?

JAB, thanks for directions to some brass latches suppliers. Next question is what brackets did these brass latches or clamps latch on to? As they aren’t the same as the later ones, are they? And if they are different, where can those be found? Thanks.

That’s a good question. I doubt it, but the best way to find out would be to look up the part number in the earlier list and compare with the part number in the later lists. I don’t have a first contract parts list but maybe there’s a note about superseding it.

Still looking for a preferably complete inner GPW early windshield. At least in good condition and no need for welding or repair. Besides maybe replace glass.

What is the difference between a mb and gpw inner? and between early and late inner?

I have 2, so how to tell?

Might have brass latches, would have to look if still needed.

I think the catches on the dash are the same? are the part numbers the same?
