First post I see; welcome. Yes, post this in the wanted section, however, I sense you first need to do a LOT of homework; lest someone will try to fool you. Not anyone here though.
Realize that saying a military jeep from the 40s, means only one thing; you want a WW2 Jeep, a Ford GPW or a Willys MB. We built no military jeeps in the 40s except 41-45.
Now, there are guys who paint a 46-53 CJ green and call it Army; and many new buyers are fooled by that. And 99% of the public has no clue either.
Point is, do lots of reading before you even look at one. Get the books, AAW. Read Jeep Draw, and this forum daily for a month. Read a couple of sites devoted to restoration, like 1942GPW.
And actually the best military flat fender jeep is the M38, 51-52.
Good luck. Be careful.

Red2,

Let me help you a bit. Terminology in the WW2 Jeep world is an assumed knowledge that is only gained by experience. Sometimes, well meaning people post replies without realizing the info provided is actually confusing to someone who has no prior experience.

AAW is actually a book series, All American Wonder. Below is the first book and you can search for the others from there.

Jeep Draw is an online reference. Most of the info on Jeep Draw is good and it a nice place to look when having questions about a specific part, tool or other jeep related item.

Jeep Draw can be found here:

http://jeepdraw.com/

Questions are always welcome.

Best easy recognition for a WWII jeep is flat fenders with absolutely no tailgate! Now, Korean war 1952-53 M-38’s do have tailgates, but have distinctive battery boxes on the cowl in front of the windshield passenger side. But, as mentioned previously above, there are CJ2A civilian flat fender jeeps that have been weldup modified, so educate yourself and post pictures here of any jeeps of interest, and ask questions here, the knowledgeable here will gladly help you and prevent unwanted grief.

What's your budget? I know of a couple very well restored jeeps (an MB and a GPW) in the $30k - $35k usd range.

Too many jeeps…and a Dodge.

Obviously OP has first dibs, but if he’s not interested, I’m also in the market.

How did your search go?
Looking for a classic military jeep nowadays is not easy. The same thing goes when looking for auto parts and accessories unless you consider buying aftermarket parts. I have recently purchased a wheel and tire package from 4wheelonline and my jeep looks so different.
Good luck finding one.

I have a friend, (Dan Judy) in NM who has a 42 GPW for sale and although he is not a G503 member, he has been restoring vehicles for several years. I have been on the G since 2004. I have known him since 2012, he is an honorable man and a vehicle mechanic by trade. He is sending you an email.
