What constitutes "early"?
Whatvare the differences?

I’m not aware of any. The “407” flange was the same throughout production as far as I know.

I didn't THINK there were early/late bases.
May be some small variation at some point but I'm not aware either.

The difference is the early ones had no vacuum port. The later ones did.

Would the ones with a vacuum port be a 596 or a 636 flange?

I have encountered both without a vacuum port. Most do.

On a GPW carb or are you talking about the generic W0 carb....
