Post by AWOL43 » Thu Nov 18, 2021 7:55 am

Hi,

Am looking for an original early GPW windshield, preferably as complete as possible for my ‘42 script restoration.

Thank you.

What’s the difference between an early GPW and MB frame? Thank you!

For one, early windshields don’t have the rifle holder brackets.

Correct. I understand the differences between early and late windshields. My question pertained to the differences between GPW and MB windshields.

For sure a difference between MB and Ford here is of course the good ol’ F stamped in the frame, but I believe the skin on them is attached different. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong. Or if anyone knows more about the differences.

Adam, I’m located in Texas. And the coming week I’m in Denver.

Couldn’t find the NOS outer frame on flea bay. Can you maybe PM me the link unless it’s already gone. Which tends to happen when people put it out here for everyone to see. Thanks.

On the other hand how do you prove it is NOS, and NOS from what year, 1970 sold by sears? or one of the other mfgs's then its a late one, well you could cut the mounts off, but then no F. Then the holes look like they were used, were the roof mounting hardware pre drilled from factory? So if not made by ford, early in the war, what do you call it? replacement? repo? ...

Hello Awol43,

I am thinking if you are looking for an original windshield for your script GPW here are a few clues if you look at any in the field.

I would say it should have brass latches, also no rifle holder brackets, and also look close and it should have a Ford script stamped on the inner left side , the upper "bottom" tube.
Driver's side.

The Ford script written out is very small, so look for a little dent or indentation with your finger among the tube.

Good luck in your search !!!

Thanks Adam.

Ray (70th Division), thank you as well. Do you know when the brass latches exactly changed to the later ones?

Hello Awol,

No I don't know off hand, but I am sure in is on the G somewhere .

If I can find it I will post when I do.

If I had to guess I would say the Script GPWs all had them ?

Best Regards,
Ray
