Is jeep draw considered correct that ford generators were gone by the begining of 43, so you want a autolite with a 3X or 4x?

I read the page, it reads funny but here’s the part that matters

I would say Late Jan. or early Feb., '44 was the date Ford changed to the Autolite GEG-5101D generator from their own made generator. (Tom W.)

Research indicates that the Ford produced version of the GEG-5002D was used in GPW production until early 1944.

I have this one and I’m sure it’s MB. I need a GPW version.

round tag is autolite, I have never seen a ford generator dated past dec of 43. looking back on all the posts in the for sale section,, nobody has one listed with a date past 2 of 44. so where are they all?

Adam, the changeover for the generators was in the Jan to Feb '44 timeframe. One can surmise that units produced by Ford in Dec 1943 (possibly the last month of production) were still being used up in production until exhausted in early 1944. Remember, the changeover did not take place at the same time at each assembly plant...so one could be using the Auto-Lite while some still had Ford units on hand. This backs up the research which shows that after Feb 1944 GPWs probably exclusively used the Auto-Lite GEG-5002D and later the GEG-5101D in GPW production.

Obviously, Ford also used 10,000+ Autolite generators (GEG-5001A) in early production vehicles...but I digress.

Looking around in my Jeep parts yesterday if found a dusty GPW Generator 2X4251 on the tag . It needs field coils because I had it tested 25 years ago it didn’t work
