Deck repair

Post by Emmett Thompson » Wed Mar 08, 2006 4:04 am

Hello all.
One of the many projects I have going on is restoring a MULE or rather a M-274 ( A nothing). The Mag deck has corrosion and some holes "Bubba" drilled into it to mount assorted hunting devices.
I am about to blast the deck and was wondering what the group thinks I should use to fill in the holes. About the only thing I can think of is JB Weld but I don't know if it will stick to the Mag deck.

As usual for me the body work is the last thing to be done as I am not good at it and it takes me a LOT of time to try and do it correctly. I am chomping at the bit to get this project finished.

Thanks

Emmett - I used JB Weld to repair several holes in the deck on my A2 and it worked just fine. In fact, I had to repair one of the tapered muffler mount holes and so far, it's holding great.

ET,

Most of your larger welding shop should be able to "weld" the Magneziumn deck. When I was considering buying a "fixerupper? I talked to my local shop a few miles down the road and they could do it.

Fortunally, I found a mule that was crank up and drive, for the price of most of the fixeruppers. ChuckW couldn't believe the condition of my mule when I brought it home. And the crated genset engine was a bonus.........

Roger that. I will look into it.

I am sure it would be better than JB weld.
