Muffler question
I've looked through this site, TM's and a billion pictures on Google but I can't find an answer. I'm hoping one of you guys can give me some insight. On the muffler tail pipes - why is there a flange and bolt holes?

Re: Muffler question
There is no fording kit listed in any of the TM's or OM's. Where did you find a fording kit?

Re: Muffler question
https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/403875.pdf mentions a deep water fording kit on page 3, item "6". Less officially, http://www.militarymules.com/main.html mentions availability of a fording kit. All that said, the kit isn't mentioned in any of the TMs and I've never been able to find a picture of one.

Re: Muffler question
If you ever find a FSN for an M274 Fording Kit, I'd like to know it. All of the 4 and 2 cylinder mule mufflers I have seen all have the same 2-bolt flange, but I've never seen anything bolted to them.

This is what it looks like on our Mule. The only place we ever knew to get one was from Charles - Muleman7 (rip). Maybe John Emery could help you?

Thanks for the PIcs Mule270! It's still strange that there is nothing in the TM's

Re: Muffler question
For some reason I feel like the fording kit included a replacement elbow that routed the air intake to another tube clamped to the exhaust stack you have. Is your air intake still in the stock location and just with the standard mushroom cap?

Re: Muffler question
Yes, it is in the same location with the mushroom cap. I have no idea if any of these kits contain an elbow or not but the one we got didn't. There is a hose that Charles came up with (a Napa coolant hose) that went from the pipe up to the steering column. Then your mushroom cap would be up on the column.

Re: Muffler question
I don't know why you'd ever want to get in water deep enough to require a fording kit, but remember, if you get water above the frame tubes, you must manually drain the right side tube. Water will enter the tube around the foot basket stowage clamps and can't get out unless you remove the drain plug. If water is left in the tube, it will rust from the inside out. Frame tubes are getting very hard to find now!

Re: Muffler question
I just remembered the old mule test film that I posted a few years ago, The A5 running underwater appears to have some type snorkel attached to the front of the foot basket. Hard to make out how it is connected to the intake. Is this the fabled mule fording kit or something homemade?

Re: Muffler question
Nice video, I don't think I'd have the balls to drive through water that deep

All it would take to hydraulic the engine is one big slurp of water. I'll think I will pass.
