Starter

Post by jeeptj1 » Fri Apr 12, 2019 3:48 am

I thought I saw some reference to a Volkswagen starter for the A5 mule on here. My friend has a 2003 vw golf that he is going to be junking and I thought if it was one that would work, I might pick it up for a spare. What starter is used? Thanks John jr

The VW starter is from a VW Beetle with an automatic transmission.

Any particular year?

Any modifications required?

I should probably have a spare on hand also.

Thanks!

In fact, several mods are required to make the VW starter work on the AO42 engine. An adapter is needed to space the starter back the correct distance from the flywheel and also to allow it to be turned so the solenoid will clear the deck cross member, and the larger drive gear needs to be installed.
