New Mule Owner

Post by Jenjr9899 » Sat Dec 08, 2018 8:28 am

Hello,
I recently purchased my first Military Vehicle. It’s a Brunswick manufactured M274A5, serial number is 419 and the Registration number is 369902. It is Dated 11/69 as well. Is there anyway to find out any of its service history as to what Units it may have been assigned to and so forth.

Very Respectfully,
Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,
Welcome to the wonderful world of the Mule! The real experts will be able to tell you more on your reg number and production date, etc.
I'm no expert...probably the only way you'd find unit history is if you find old markings under layers of paint.

Welcome. I will add your information to my mule database. There is no way to determine the service history of your mule, other than possibly finding any unit markings that MIGHT be painted on the fuel tank, front cross member, etc. I will say that your mule is one of the 2nd contract M274A5's, and it seems that most of them were surplussed out of the USMC base in Twenty-Nine Palms, CA. Is there any indication that your mule was ever painted red?

Chuck,
It looks it was initially painted in the semi gloss OD green, then repainted in the 4 color 1970’s pattern, then a funky green pattern by the Forestry Service.

Thanks, I know of at least three M274A5's that came from Twenty-Nine Palms that were red.
