Platform Protection
Hello I am new here and am just wondering what everyone is using to
protect their cargo areas, I see black mats of various types and
have also heard of RHINO (spray on) being used, I am looking for something
that will protect the bed and still be removable so that the Mule can be
in its original state for shows etc.
PS also Looking for a nice mule, preferably A5, good runner and deck and all covers.
I am in Ontario Canada but can travel to near by States (NY, Michigan, Ohio etc and others).

Re: Platform Protection
To protect my mule bed, I just cut down to size a pickup truck rubber bed mat. Works great, and is easy to remove.

Re: Platform Protection
Bryan, being a new mule owner one of the first things I thought about is protecting the bed. I didn't know if I wanted thick or thin rubber, I just wanted to to lay flat. I went to a local rubber vender and purchased a 3/16" textured rubber mat. I haven't cut piece to size yet, but I will this week. I will have some "gear" on top of mat so keeping it in place should not be a problem. If I need to get into engine compartment I'll just roll it back to gain access. I suggest finding a rubber outlet that carries mat and or/truck bed protectors and just make a choice. In a case like this I believe it's personal preference anyway....with not just one covering doing the job.

Bryan, I will post some photo's when I get my mat installed on the mule bed. Tell us more about the mule you are expecting to arrive. Sounds interesting.

Re: Platform Protection
I would strongly suggest NOT Rhino/Linex'ing your bed. I use stall mat I got at my local Tractor Supply store. It's removeable and very sturdy, and cuts to shape pretty easily.

Re: Platform Protection
I agree 100% with emmando22, DON'T use any type spray-on bed liner material, it looks like crap and you'll never get it off if you decide you want your mule orignal. I also use the 4' x 6' stall mats from Tractor Supply, they are cheap ($39.99 but sometimes they are on sale for as little as $25.) and very heavy.

I agree, those Mats look very good, and I will look for similar here,
thank-you guys, it looks good on the mule also!
do you have a brand name? or is it just a regular STALL Mat?
I will look at TSC (our farm supply and tractor place same as yours!)
or at the local farming Co-Op. thanks again.

I have the same thing and it works great. Full size pickup rubber bed mat, cut to the shape of the mule bed.
When you wash the mule, take the bed mat off, or water will get trapped under it and spot the paint.

Re: Platform Protection
nice pictures,
hope it wasn't too difficult to recover from the "puddle"
have to do some fluid changes after that I imagine.

Re: Platform Protection
I bought a mat from Tractor Supply like the one Chuck has pictured above when I got my mule. The mat is diamond plate pattern on one side and ribbed on the other. With the ribs up, my gear seams to "stick" better. When I went back last week to get some more for mats laying in front of my workbench, the sales guy told me that he no longer is getting the ribbed style only smooth on both sides. Your store may be different. Still a very good mat I highly recommend. A bonus is the heavy weight of it. When hauling the mule to different sites I don't have to remove the mat off the bed. My friends with lighter mats on 4 wheelers have to remove them or they blow off at highway speeds.

That mat looks great.
How did you cut the mat accurately?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Platform Protection
For the thick stall mat, I used a jig saw with a fine metal cutting blade.
