4 cylinder muffler utilization on the 2.

Post by Guam0311 » Thu Nov 17, 2022 12:38 pm

Can the 4 cylinder muffler be used on the 2 with modifications? will it damage , or perform as well? I have heard of some guys using it? I know their are lot of them for sale. It's so hard to find the 2 cylinder one.

Anyone have experience on that swap and modification?

I asked John Emery about this and he said the 4-cylinder muffler has an internal baffle that is too small and will put too much backpressure on the engine. In order to make the muffler work, one would need to cut it completely apart and resize the internals. I have never looked closely at one, just going by what John told me. He also said he is tooling up to start producing 2-cylinder mufflers, don't know what his time frame is.

Call John and tell him you are interested in a muffler, the more people who let him know, the faster he may get the project rolling. You have to remember, mule parts is not his "real job"!

With the number of guys asking about mufflers, surely these would be a hot commodity.
Due to them not being available for years, I’m sure some guys would buy more than one….
Even thoughI live up here in Canada, I really should go visit a local muffler manufacturer here and see what they have to say. Our local company specializes in aftermarket mufflers for all kinds of off road vehicles like ATVs, snowmobiles, dirt bikes etc.
They have a state of the art facility and should be able to handle something as simple as mule mufflers…

Would be interesting to hear what they can do. I still have a couple of NOS 2-cylinder mufflers that I am holding on to.
