Hi Guys,
I have an Australian No 4 Trailer that I have had for a number of years, but no longer have the space and its time to sell it. I believe it to be an ex RAAF trailer with the original RAAF number (167 439). Its quite original and has the lunette ring, with chains, and jeep wheels. Unfortunately it has no data plate. It does have some rust, but not to bad - a little in the base and in the chassis rail, however it is fixable. The trailer has no electrics, but I do have two trailer lights to throw in (not certain if they are original).
I am happy to email pictures. I intend in listing in Command Reconnaissance, but thought I would post here first.
The trailer is not registered.
I am asking $800.
Regards
Paul
PM or ring me (0413 335 859 after 5pm) if interested.

Re: Australian No 4 Trailer
Hi Paul and all,
Just to clarrify Paul, while it may have made its way into the RAAF, originally it was an army trailer (and likely always was i think). The number 167439 is its ARN and being a GMH trailer, is also its serial number which wil help prospective buyers. Im not sure if repro GMH #4 plates have been done (there was someone in victoria doing them, but i think they might have been Ford #4 ones).
On the flip side, she sure hung around the system for a long time as acording to the Army registration ledger books, it was surplussed in 1968 from 2 Base Ordnance Depot which was here in Sydney having originally been allocated to a South Australian depot once built in 1945.
If it helps, RAAF vehicles had a registration number above 200 000.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Ian.

IAN, I'm pretty sure GMH & Ford replacement data plates
are still available in Victoria - suggest contacting the
VMVC secretary. Monty.

Hi Paul,
No worries, happy to help.
The jeep hasnt gone very far at all! Arrival of a little one and work have slowed down jeep time immensely! One day mate, one day!
Monty- thanks for the heads up, i didnt realise GMH plates had been done too. I`ll let a few people know who asked me.
Cheers all,

Re: Australian No 4 Trailer
All the No.4 trailers were 1945 production, and 167439 is no exception. As Ian said, taken on charge in South Australia, and remained in the system till an impressive 14 June 1968 - 23 years - when it was written off by Board of Survey from 2 BOD. There is no indication that it spent anytime with, or was transferred to, the RAAF.
The plate will have had, on each line:
Trailer 2wh 8cwt
Aust No4 (the 4 in a raised square)
1945 D^D
GMH-W Serial No.
S 167439 (also on a raised square)
The GMH-W means General Motors Holdens-Woodville, and the 'S' underneath stands for 'South Australia'.
The RAAF's main registration block commenced at 200000, but there are RAAF vehicles with lower numbers in the Commonwealth registration sequence. Incidentally, the RAAF are still, as far as I'm aware, allocating from the 200000 block - I think they are now into the 230000 or 240000 range.
