Nice photo with the two generations on board !

Here is the same with color correction:

It looks like the jeep was recently restored at that time and the front bumper was new and freshly painted with a slightly different color

Great work Yves !!!

Hi Yves,

Wow thanks for the photo with a different perspective. Dad bought the Jeep in 1980, and I have only found out recently about what’s happened to it within its life. Dad didn’t do any modifications himself, as he was more than wrapped about how it looked and ran back then.
In its “previous” life however, it was issued to the Australian Army; and they did the usual army mods at the time. The bumper could have very well been replaced at some stage of its life due to wear and tare.

The Australian Army mods on this Jeep included: A reenforced back chassis (meaning they welded in some small extra sections to make it stronger and prevent any possible chassis flexing); an anti-theft device (a small flat piece of metal with a hole in it, that was mounted under the dashboard and allowed a padlock to be applied around the gear lever; locking it into reverse). It’s had it engine changed out from a Willys to a GPW. It has F stamped front seats; a GPW rear diff; a Willy’s spring on the rear right and a GPW on the rear left. Classic army moves in using whatever they had spare to keep it going and on the road.

Hello Chris,

I have never looked this far down on the forum really, but your jeep and lifelong pictures with it are awesome !!
I guess being down under, means I should have looked down under on the forum :D :D :D

Keep us posted on your restoration, such a great history with your jeep and Family having had this jeep for so many years.

Well Done !!

Thanks so much Ray! I definately will keep everyone updated. It’s going to cost me about $10K Aus to get it going again, so I’m just trying to save as much as possible at the moment. The rising cost of living over here isn’t helping. I even started a Gofundme haha. Anyways, will see what happens.

Hello Chris,

Yes I know about that !!!
I have a few projects that have been delayed over the years do to lack of funds at the time.
But I haven't forgotten them, and they are on my agenda now .

Raise funds with go fund me, that will be great and may help out a lot !

The costs of inflation here are getting ridiculous, energy is the key metric, that controls it all.
It goes into everything, and everything is transported around the world.
Control fuel inflation, the rest should tamp down naturally.

Keep up your great efforts !

Best Regards,
Ray
Thanks again Ray. Yeah I know the story too well at the moment. Any excuse to put up the price. Fuel prices shot up, then the cost of everything in the grocery store shot up because the truck that delivered the food had to pay more for fuel. It’s never going to end.

Yeah I wasn’t sure about crowd funding. Everyone always said it was just for charity but it seems like it’s changed now and there are a lot more people with small business ventures and people that just want to fix up their car and can’t afford it. I’ve only raised $160 so far ($100 was from my Mum though haha) so yeah, I don’t even think I’m going to get to the $10k that I need anytime soon.

Hey mate. That’s good to know. Not sure if I’ll need them just yet, but I’ll keep in touch. First step for me is to get the engine running again. Hasn’t started in 20+ years.

Hi Chris,
Do you know the ARN number of your jeep?

Regarding the engine restart, it should be OK providing some precautions prior to crank the engine.
I did that with my jeep,in the family since 1956, after a close inspection: found two head studs broken and 2 U bolts broken on the front left suspension
After a quick repair the engine restarted immediately after 25 years.

Hi Yves,
No I don’t know the ARN as yet. I have been looking through the ledgers and found the engine number however. It was taken out of one and put into another; but the chassis number recorded at that moment is not the same chassis number as mine currently. I’ve checked the ledgers a few times back and forth, but you tend to go blind after a while trying to decipher some of the handwriting….

In the next short while I’ll try turning it over. It’s just a matter of being careful, but I have confidence that it’s all going to be ok.

Hi Chris,
Did you make a search in the ARN Excel file?
Not all vehicles are encoded, but if you are lucky you could find your frame number.
Yes, you go blind reading the data :D . I have encoded a few thousands G503 data from these books in the Excel file, rev4, if I remember well

Hi Yves,

No I haven’t come across the excel file that you’re taking about. I had seen one some time ago, but it was maybe in the very early stages of being completed. Where abouts can I see a copy?
