290875 came with a FAT one, but that Jeep went through a rebuild after the war...so, that is unconfirmed and seems a bit late anyway

Re: Rear Prop Shaft - Fat or Skinny - Please check your Number
The Fat Prop shaft is not a Slat Grille thing, it is an MB thing that lasted well into 1943. They fell into the "use until supply is exhausted" category and could possibly show up on an early '44 MB. Once a jeep went through a rebuild it was probably replaced which explains the inconsistency of their presence.
The ORD Dept. did comparison and performance tests at Aberdeen in the Summer of 1943, their goal was to establish consistency. They compared a May '43 MB and May '43 GPW that were built the same week. The report pointed out the differences and interchangeability of parts as well as performance and wear. This test included dismantling and checking the engines.
We all know there were many changes along with the adoption of the ACM 2 body.
The manuals are a good source but I have seen fat propellor shafts on unmolested MB's well into Dec. 1943. My Dec. '42 has one and my May '43 MB (237366) had one on it when I bought it in 1982.
The TM10-1186 dated July '43 lists the Part # as A-1429, the Jan. '44 SNL G503 shows a picture of the fat prop shaft and lists the same part number. Fast forward to the Feb. 45 ORD 9 SNL G-503 and they show the thin prop shaft on p.140 and the fat prop shaft on p.141. Both have the Part # A-1429.
Willys changed parts without changing the part number. For example, the transmission/transfer skid plate evolved from a 2-piece, to a single piece (like Ford), to the late-style for the internal style parking brake and the part number never changed.
Remember, just because the information is printed in black and white does not mean the facts are that clear cut.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Peter
