I have a Willys go devil engine serial number 44046904 and a casting number of 636953w2.

Was this a Jeep Engine produced for the Willys civilian car?

Is it the same as a slat grill Engine? It has a short dip stick and the manafold carburator bolts are mounted the wrong direction.

Thanks for any information

Your beautiful Slat Grill is referenced in the Australian Army military vehicles ledger number 21 page 111:
https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/C2143588

ARN# 136153
Willys Truck 1/4 ton Jeep
Engine S/N 107473
Frame S/N 107016
USA hood # W 2038413

You are very lucky :) !
However the actual hood number is not the original  !
It's extremely rare to have also the USA hood number in these ledgers :)!

Hi. I have an ex-Australian Army slat grill 123045 DoD 03-23-42 (ARN - 79545). It has a repositioned rear shock absorber which I am told was done for Pacific operations - does your have similar. It also has a modification to make a locker box under the rear seat. I do not suppose at some point you send me a couple of photos of the interior of your tub? Cheers

Hi Tizzard:

How was the shock modified for Pacific operations. Was this just done by the Australians or did the Army or Marines do the same?

Many thanks.

Regards,

Walter

Hi. I am not sure who did it or the exact theatre of operations it was intended for. All I have is the word of a friend who is very much into slat grills and knowledgeable who told me the modification was done by the Aussie Army during WW2 for jungle operations. It certainly gives a slightly greater clearance for the rear wheel arch and would be a useful and logical mod. Andrew
