Early body number
Hello everyone. My Willys is a Slat Grill but it has been modified over the years. The body is slat, the frame and engine are not. I don't have the original data plates but I do have the body number. 2048! Built on day one I think. What serial number could it correspond to? Thank you

Re: Early body number
Well, if body numbers started at 2000, then this is body 48 , lots of shipping and moving around of bodies so if FIFO was not followed, who knows what number it could of been.
Maybe somebody has some hidden information.
Have you done any searching on the serial number list?
With only the body being a slat, what is accepted for vehicle titling? the frame number?

Re: Early body number
Well if it helps, I have mb 100018 (number 18) with body number 2025 (they didn’t match the body and frame numbers). This was built on first day production and has a DOD of 11/17/41. If your body was used for a first day production mb, it would likely have the same DOD.

Re: Early body number
This photo bothers me a bit because it looks forest green!
The MB-Marine was a slat and had slate features with a few additions but I’m more concerned with a MB-NOM-12 or MB-MZ-1 with body numbers from 2000 to 4000+ being mistaken as slat bodies.

Hi Mark, I didn't know about the existence of this type of Jeep... I don't have the chassis number and the Jeep was reconditioned by the Italian army and then had 12 owners before me. Are there any other details to understand if the body is from a slat? Thank you

Re: Early body number
I am not a Willys or slat expert, but the features of an early slat grille MB are the absence of a glove box and therefore the mounting of the fire extinguisher on the passenger side. When Willys introduced the glove box in the later slats, the FE moved to the drivers side, so look for the 6 holes in the right hand side footwell body panel. Also on early slat MB's the fuel tank well had square corners. There are more features but I will leave that to those in the know.Tonzi63 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 12:34 amHi Mark, I didn't know about the existence of this type of Jeep...
