Slat grill??? Restamp On CJ engine

Recently took this CJ2a engine out of a GPW. When I cleaned up the stamping area above the water pump to read the CJ serial number I found this...
If you look close you can see the CJ2a serial number under the MB stamping. Might have been replaced into an early MB? Wish it could talk.
Your thoughts??
Also, how do you read the CJ serial number??

Is it a u or a j? I c a U... somebody could of put it into a slatty,, post war block so who knows when or what.

What engine serial number would have started with a "U" ??

The engines in Willys station wagons started with a “U”, for “Utility”.
