Questions for my slat grill video

Post by MAJ Tim » Mon Oct 11, 2021 11:56 am

Greetings,

If you are on facebook, you likely saw the picking up of slat #101109 last week. I am finally getting to the point where I my garage is clear enough to go through it in detail. I was going to do a video for youtube on the found condition. If there are any specific questions you'd like any questions answered please post them here. It is a motorpool rebuild slat with nearly all original parts, some replaced. For instance, it has a later speedo and combat rims, but it's all war time and original.

Thanks

LTC (ret) Tim

Nice Slat, fortunate to have so many original parts, I watched your 4th video, and really enjoyed looking it over. Congrats on the original hood numbers. Only question I was wondering what body number is stamped on the driver side body gusset. Thanks again for sharing a beautiful and significant early Slat Grill. Hal Joyce

I can look for it…exactly where on the gusset? I missed the fire extinguisher bracket and filterette too.

You should have a type 1 tub, so the body number should be stamped on the outboard (fender) side of the drivers side toe board gusset.

Tim,
It will be vertically stamped, along the front outside edge of the body toe board gusset, just infront of the lower big hole and upper small holes in the gusset, below the firewall, just below the 6 screw electrical junction plates inside attaching screw. Not the 1” wide flanged edge but just inside toward the lower fender skirt.

Tim, you may have to carefully clean or use a soft bristle brush to remove dirt, dust, possible rust to expose the numbers stamped there.

Yes, four digits for your early body and frame, would make it original to that frame, mine is over 3000 behind my frame number, also. Also was wondering if that wrong windshield frame might have any push button canvas top grommet studs showing that it still may be a latter slat grill windshield frame?

You can see the windshield pretty clearly in this video.
