SG battery tray top pieces

Post by Michael O. » Tue Feb 02, 2021 1:15 pm

My early MB is missing the sheet metal parts of the battery tray. I don’t need the entire bracket. Does anyone just make the top pieces?

Michael, mine were missing also, along with the long two hole support plate underneath. I took careful measurements from a close friends original slat grill battery tray, and I built my own out of 16 gage sheet metal making the bends in a 4” jaw vice and a 3lb shop hammer. I used a good electric jig saw with a metal cutting blade to first cut the correct lines and angles. Drilled the 1/4” drill bit holes and the larger 25/64” hole, then tack welded them 3” apart or correct distance to fit your battery on your supports. Hope this helps! Relatively easy! Hope this drawing is clear, and helps!

I had a similar situation so I just took a complete new reproduction tray and drilled the spot welds out to free up the 2 pieces I needed. A little bit of welding and the battery tray is good to go.

I'm still looking for some top pieces. I really don't want to buy a complete tray just to remove the top pieces...but I will if I have to, obviously. I was hoping simply to purchase the top pieces from the manufacturer...but to no avail.
