Slat Grill MB For Sale

Post by Bruce W » Fri Jan 15, 2021 6:07 pm

I've come to the realization that I will never have the time, money, or inclination to give this jeep the restoration it deserves. I have other projects in line ahead of this one, more than I'll probably get done in my lifetime. So, I want to move this one along to someone who can give it the attention it should have.

It's missing quite a bit, I expected to use a lot of repro parts, and I bought a few, which will be available but are not included in the price. What it doesn't have:
Grill
Engine
Either drive shaft
Tires or wheels
Gauges
Fuel tank or sump
Radiator
Grab handles, bumperettes, mirror, back seat, etc., etc.
What is bad or wrong:
Transmission is a box of rust
Rear axle is apparently a CJ unit
Front axle feels like there are no internals
Windshield is a later MB item, clamps are not brass
Body has some rust, normal for this part of the country, not as bad as some I've seen.

What it does have:
Windshield hold-downs
Spare tire carrier
Frame tag # 100161
Headlight buckets and arms
Steering gear and linkage, but I think the steering wheel is wrong.

The top that is on it is not included but will be for sale separately.

I have more pictures and can take more of any particular area or part needed. Please only ask for more pictures if you are truly interested in buying. Ask questions and I'll do my best to answer
Asking price: $1,000.00 USD The jeep is located about 50 miles North of Denver, Colorado. I can deliver it within a reasonable distance for a reasonable fee.
Thanks for looking. BW

Marc,
I think it’s pretty much spoken for. There are four ahead of you. I’ll post here any developments. Thanks.

Yeah, I hope it gets the restoration it deserves. It sure sold fast. I guess not many of them around. I'm glad I bought one when I did, seems every year everything gets a little more scarce including White Scout Car parts

Yes, it went pretty quickly. I had about seven responses and no one tried to jip me down. Maybe I priced it too low. One person, not trying to influence me, said that he would have paid twice my asking price. I too hope it gets the restoration it deserves. One thing became apparent - it would not get it here. The money will help with one of my other jeep projects, probably the GPW.

Edited out racist term.

The word "Gypsy" was (and is) a racial slur referring to the Roma people. The Roma people are descendants of Northern India who, due to severe marginalization and threats of violence by others, lived a nomadic lifestyle of forced migration for centuries.

During a fraught history, Roma people were taken as slaves in Romania and were targeted for genocide by the Nazis.

The word "Gypsy" is a slang word perpetuating stereotypes of Roma people as "thieves, rowdies, dirty, immoral, con-men, asocials, and work-shy" according to the Council of Europe.

In a similar vein, the term "Gyp" or "getting gypped" means to cheat or get conned, and many connect this meaning as another racist extension of Gypsy.
