I'm in Maine. There's a place about 8 miles from me out in the 'sticks' that has been in business over 50 years. They just fixed up two slat radiators of mine. I'll have them do my GP radiator soon. They do all types of antique stuff...family owned and operated. It's Sanford Radiator in Waterboro, ME (207)247-6250.

I know it's across the country from you, but giving an option.

Do you have a ballpark price for re-core?

Anyone ever get a ballpark price to re-core an MB/GPW radiator from Sanford?

I just called Radiator Masters in IA who was also listed on the G503. They are working up a quote for me.

Thx

I just had mine re-cored in Petaluma CA. $866. :?

For anyone else in the country it would probably cost half of the CA price.

Sanford in Maine says the ballpark to re-core and MB radiator is $500-$1,000.
They buy cores primarily from Main Auto Radiator Manufacturing Co.
He was extremely helpful and gave me a lot of info on what to look for and to look for a local shop if at all possible.

The local shop (Kaufmans in Wickliffe on the east side of Cleveland) might be spot on with their estimate of $600-$700. Yikes.
He buys cores from Thermal Solutions who manufactures them near Cleveland.

I've still got to send pictures and dimensions to Radiator Masters in IA to get a price.

For now, I will be glad I have a functional Willys radiator from a CJ or truck or wagon to use.

Anyone got any other suggested shops within an hour or two drive of Cleveland OH?

Thanks,

It sad than most of the skilled workers are gone. now all just buy new china products. In my area when im a kid we had several machine shops, radiator shops, auto electric shops in every town, now just autozone and napa. The auto electric shop rebuilt starters, and alternators before now they say just buy new.

If you need to send dimensions to the radiator shop, then they probably dont know what a mb radiator looks like and who knows what the core will be.

Does anybody who had a radiator recored have detailed information on it and pictures? How many rows, how many tubes, does it look correct.

If anything is different from the original core, then what you end up with is a ww2 top and bottom and who knows what in the middle, might as well buy a repo that looks correct.

\If you have an original 2a radiator, they look correct from a few feet back. use that one and call it quits. Lots of ww2 jeeps use them, unless you look kinda close you cant tell the difference.

From Chuck Lutz:
GPW radiator core has THREE rows of tubes.
They are staggered to allow airflow to reach each row.
There are 38 tubes in each row.
There are 114 tubes in all.

Chuck
Unfortunately Chuck is unable to communicate his useful information at this time so he asked that I share it with you all.

now who is making a correct core like that? 5 years ago somebody was making them. trimming the ends may be kinda easy, but the space in the middle is the giveway..
