I have this ross steering sector, plate cover is t125999, the cover has 44 and 4 in the inside. has a number above the word patented but I can no read it. the worm gear has 1 94 041 on it. the shaft has t124996 on it, The housing itself has t130861
on the outside. These numbers are hard to read. The end of the worm gear shaft is broken where the steering wheel goes on. Some of the numbers are hard to read. Does anyone know anything about it? Have other pictures.

Chuck...

You have a complete MB "Slat Grill" steering box. While the worm gear shaft is ruined at the steering wheel end, the housing, the side cover and the top cover are all original (check the flange on the top cover for another "T" number or if it has a GPW part number on it!). It probably has the three ORIGINAL screws that hold the top cover to the housing and you can tell if they are F marked or not, but they are a SHOULDERED design to center the top cover on the housing perfectly. If you have the jacket that the worm gear shaft is in, it might have a working horn fitting and the two screws and be a candidate for a new bushing and installation on this housing once it is restored.

I have one of these but am missing the side cover (marked exactly like yours is!). A slat grill restorer would be very interested I think in this even though it needs a rebuild.

If this is for sale, post it on the Slat Grill/MB forum.

Good Luck!

The numbers on the upper retainer that holds the worm gear in looks to be GPA 3568.

Ford used the same NUMBER for an item, with the preface indicating which vehicle it was made for. The Top Cover number for a GPW is, "GPW-3568". I do not know anything about the steering box for a GPA so I don't know if there was a DIFFERENT prefaced number for it. If that is correct though, then it probably would have "GPA-3568" on it.

I looked at the GPW-3568 Top Cover I have and the marking is definitely "GPW-3568".

Any chance you can post a pic of yours?

The housing itself has t13086t not t130861 as stated in the original post. Also, the plate cover is t125998, not t125999. Sorry for the confusion but, Some of these numbers are hard for me to read.

Chuck...

The side cover is indeed, T125998. The number on my Slat housing is also the victim of bad casting and some damage by a wrench or something but I can make out what appears to be "T122 and then I might be a "9" then definitely an "8" then the last digit is the casting victim so it is either a "3" or an "8".

My housing has the EXACT same casting markings and design features as yours.
