I think that's just after the first Canadian contract?

Yes, CDLV 241-242 was 118697 to 120600.
I have 118729, the earliest known survivor.

Yes Mark I reckon that's about right.

I notice you're from Birmingham, my jeep was in Smethwick for many years.

About 10 miles away from me Leigh, not a good area now though, you would need an armoured car there now, not a jeep. :D

Chuck, that heavy made metal screen attached to your grill, is the slat grill, at least I can't see any other screen or expanded metal in the photo you have attached, am I not seeing some other metal? Just wouldn't want you to demolition a good original slat grill!

The screen was attached with spot welds and i removed it before the pictures were taken.

What would be the correct engine and transmission to put in this slat grill?

Willys T84 transmission, mine had a willys cj' l-134 replacement engine, stamped 4LR148255 cast number 804380 on the block, cast number 640161 on the head which is after war, but may still have been in service through Korean debacle. My engine turned by hand when I found it rusting and disfunctional on an oilfield trucking lot in Texas, replaced points, wires & spark plugs and it started and ran with some sputtering and smoke, till carberator screw adjusted, and it runs fair, so I haven't looked for an appropriate dated engine, preferring to spend my limited budget on tools and body parts for the last 12 years! I've enjoyed bringing the thing back to military semblance!

I have found a mb tub 185846. Would this be correct for this 1942 slatgrill, did the tubs change that much over this period of time?

As per this chart if it were a type I tub it would be about a November, 1943 tub. If it is a Type II tub it would be about a January, 1945 tub.

If you have a Febuary Slatgrill the tub might or might not have a glove box as that was the month that they changed. Your Slatgrill MB122025 would have a glovebox as the changeover # was MB120680 as per Jeepdraw. Your MB122025 would also have a Willys Script on the rear panel. The tub that you found #185846 does not have the Willys Script on the rear panel

What is the body tub number on the frame, that has the glove box with original data tag matching the frame number, why replace an original slat grill tub?

Understand clearly, my original tub flooring, both side panels and tool box bottoms were rust rot, saved my original cowl and the 5 hole toeboard gussets, with windshield, tool box lids, hip pads, axe brackets, and all attaching hardware that was present, and installed them on a new MD Juan tub only!

You may find it useful to look at my pictures of MB122368 for reference....

http://thomas.tcjnet.com/pictures-of-mb122368/

And other stuff on my MB Slat pages: http://thomas.tcjnet.com/mbgpw/

Late glove box slats had combat rims, and many other parts that are standard MB/GPW, not early slat style, check my lists, and also parts books.

Good luck finding a pancake air cleaner, scalloped rear axles, glove box lock, right hand fill T84 case, early intake manifold,.... :) Took me years.

If you change tub, make sure you modify it to match original, in area of hood to cowl quarters (top), glove box lock catch location, correct glove box cover (locking one is different), WILLYS marked rear panel, early hood (no drains in rear hat), not mention early style floor hat channels....

If you change tub, even for a modern repro, I would move original cowl to it.... I think using that Type II tub would be a mistake.... way different.

Best of luck,

T.
