Slat grill
Would a willys mb with serial number 122025 be a slat grill? Also did all slat grills have the machine gun support on the frame?

Re: Slat grill
I have 111050 with body number 14450, so that body number seems to be within range of 122025.

Re: Slat grill
Great find! My Slattie was in much worse shape, and restoration proceeding AFA (As Funding Allow). My Slattie is SN 122397, DOD 2/23/1942 Body # 25728 with differentials stamped within 1 week of DOD. REG # through 3 layers of different shades of OD IS 2049887. Hope this helps you. Remember, JEEP stands for Just Empty Every Pocket. Have fun restoring it. Mine has a military replacement engine from the National Guard unit that dispensed it surplus years ago. Rebuilding the engine rather than looking for "correct" engine number and configuring it as it served the 32nd Div here in Wisconsin. BTW sheet metal parts from Joes Motor Pool are worth looking at if sheet metal is an issue. Ron can help with those as well.

Re: Slat grill
JeePa, I wondered if you could share your replacement engines serial number stamping, and casting numbers and dates. My slat grill has a replacement willys engine, I'm not at home currently and can not recall the s/n stamped above my water pump boss just remember it has the letter r and another letter followed by about 5 numers, always wonderered if replacement occurred during military service or during civilian release.JeePa wrote: ↑Thu Sep 06, 2018 5:58 pmGreat find! Re: Slat grill
My slatgrill's engine SN is 4LR110881AB and casting number is 641087 L-W11 NI-CR N2.
I do not have machining date on file.
This is definitely post-war. Once I get access to machining date I will know roughly when the engine was installed.
Hope this helps your quest. Regards, JeePa

Re: Slat grill
I am at home now, my block is stamped on the water pump boss with replacement engine number 4LR148255 then on the casting left side SD then 804380 then 13 is the machining date under the oil pan gasket? I don't have any urgent need to pull the pan and gasket, was just curious if replacement number was similar to mine, as it seems proven to be, and curious if military rebuild replacement, would this be a military number assigned, or a standard civilian replacement number? Do you have any idea what kind of replacement numbers were used by the military or civilians use? Thanks for sharing your numbers!

Re: Slat grill
JeePa! Sorry to waste time with all the questions, I wisely used someones advice, and went to the M38 threads and searched SD+804380+block and quickly found my sought for answers. This block was built after 1952 for m38 jeeps, they were stamped for the military mcxxxxxx or mcrxxxxxx m=willys c=38 r=replacement and finally 4LRxxxxxx were generic replacement engines for general public jeep service shops and mechanic vendor shops!

Re: Slat grill
No such thing as unnecessary request. We ALL learn from these inquiries and sharing of data. Your information is a re-boot of information I "cognitively displaced ". Fortunately I have verified history from previous owner that the engine that was in my Slattie was installed during its NG tenure so maybe the procurement process for the NG was to purchase from civilian vendor. Fun to speculate how the engine originated, but nonetheless a clear testimony to the enduring value of these machines to the military. My engine is off to the machine shop, but before I replace the oil pan I will verify the matching date of the unit, or verify that location is where the data is found, or Not found. Thanks for the information!
