Early tube and dipstick oil
Hi,
i had found an tube and dipstick oil,
but tube seems very short... is it original tube ? Cut ?
And the handle is correct ? because i have seen some weldings on the top ? Is it the correct dipstick ?

Re: Early tube and dipstick oil
Mine mic's out at 1.277 inch and the length of the dipstick from the top of the cap (not the loop) is somewhere around 23". All the tubes I have are cut at an angle where they go into the block as well.

Re: Early tube and dipstick oil
Hi,
I guess that the correct one has this form.
The one shown in your photos is too small and I think it´s correct for a Americar engine.
The tube is as Andy say and has an angle and cut.
Cheers,
Charlie S.

Re: Early tube and dipstick oil
Charlie S, You have posted a photo of the early GPW dipstick and tube. The early MB tube is straight and is 1.25 OD and is 14' long. I have a good reproduction of the slat grille outer tube that is the correct length with the bevel cut on the bottom.
They are $25 plus shipping. Thanks,
Richard Grace

Re: Early tube and dipstick oil
Hi Richard,
tks for your comments.
I want to mention that my SLAT GRILL is a LATE Slat (#124991).
I don´t know if the tube and dipstick changes from an Early Slat Grill.
I checked and saw a lot of photos of Late Slats and all looks like mine.
Could you post a photo of the mentioned reproduxtion ?
Cheers,
Charlie Saguier

Re: Early tube and dipstick oil
Charlie S, you are correct for a late slat. The oil filler tube changed from p/n 639555 straight pipe to p/n A-5165 with a funnel top at serial number 114550. The reproductions that I have are for pre-114550 engines. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Richard,
your offer for early tube and dipstick oil is still valid. I would be interested too.

Unfortunately, 8 years ago I didn't have a Slat Grill, but now.
Adam, a year ago you searched too. Did you find?

Re: Early tube and dipstick oil
I bought the DOM tubing on ebay, $35 bucks plus post bought enough to do 2.
Get a small dipstick from a welder or genset that is way too small for a correct dipstick, along with a full size later dipstick and tig them together to make a correct looking one,
heres a post last time this subject came up
viewtopic.php?f=69&t=241355
watch the auction site,,, can ususlly find one or parts to make on for $125 bucks or start a new post on the wanted section and c what happens.
I have some left in the barn,, will be quite a bit till i get to look for them.

Re: Early tube and dipstick oil
I asked JMP awhile ago if they had plans to reproduce these, they said they would but they had no idea when. I guess it might help if we all keep pestering them about it?
