New Slat Grill owner.
Hi all
After a good year of reading and researching here I decided in August that a Willys project was for me. My MB is in good shape but missing alot of parts. The tub is probably restorable but it will take alot of work and skill because it is so rotted out. The frame has a small rust problem on the front passenger side but it will be fixed by removing the rusted piece and welding a new one.
The engine was rebuilt 2 years before i bought it and was never fired, the only major problem is that there is an H crack under the distributor that Bubba welded up. I will have to get that properly repaired, I've been in contact with a company that will put it into a special oven then weld it and let it cool down over several days, from what they told me its the only way.
I've been busy striping it down and making a list of parts that I need to purchase... wow so many its unreal. I'm in the first phase of the restoration wich is frame and mechanical resto. Once that is done then I will look into either restoring the original tub or buying a reproduction tub.

Re: New Slat Grill owner.
I just want to say that without this community helping each other out I think alot of us would find a resto project like this overwhelming, so thanks to all in advance for your help and advice.
Here some more eye candy:
Gauges, to bad the previous owner reset the odometer to zero but he told me it had 31000 something miles on it... why would anybody reset that...
Radiator, look to me like its from a slat.
Windshield, to bad the drivers side is broken
Slat Grill with a slat missing
I will post pics of the tub shortly.

Re: New Slat Grill owner.
Can anybody tell me if this tag is original to the Slat Grill radiator? I removed the paint and crap off of it last night.
Thank you

Hi
I think yes, you have 3 marks on the tank of the radiator,
and after that I can see on the photos.

Re: New Slat Grill owner.
The tag indicates the radiator was serviced by "A-1 Radiator" at some point in time/ Perhaps a little research would find it they are still in business and if they are, they can probably tell you from the "068187" tag when that occured.

Re: New Slat Grill owner.
ElGros,
Congrats on nice jeep project.
There are some guys that say that weldig the block is a hopless repair. Even if you heat it. I have a cracked
block and plan to repair it using special Lock and Stich pins. Each of the C2F pin has a pulling force of 300lbs.
If you use a pneumatic needle gun after the repair, it blends the repair so it can hardly be seen. This might
be a better optio for you, and you can do this yourself. A repair on the thin sides might require the L4 pins.
I recommend you study this.
