SLAT GRILL- GRILL BOND STRAPS

Post by Charlie S. » Mon Jan 04, 2010 2:00 pm

Hi,
which is the correct position for the 2 small bond straps on the grill.
Image
Is this the correct position or must be in the other way ?
Cheers,

Charlie, looks right to me. I dug up this old post. I know its for a GPW, but I imagine its not different from out slats!! I hope one of the more resident slat guys chimes in.

Charlie
I am re wiring my 41 MB and have pulled those ground wires, however I checked my photos and the original ground wire was on the inside bolt for the head light bucket support. My computer is giving me fits right now and I can not send a photo. I am sure the wiring is all original, but you heard that before. Jim

Charlie,

Are you asking about the headlamp grounding wire (mounted to the H/L bracket) or the grill to hood bonding strap (more to the middle of the grill)? I am guessing you mean the latter.
These are the ones where the paint must be removed from the underside of the hood so that bare metal to bonding strap contact can be maintained in order for the bonding straps to be effective.

Regards, Jeff

Hi Jeff,
thanks for your interest.
I'm asking about the correct position of the 2 small bond straps on the grill !
I want to know if the bend part must be to the front of the jeep or must be looking the engine !
Cheers,
Charlie S.

Hi Dave,
tks for your photo.
You think it's untouched, but the bond strap looks fixed to the grill with a clip and not with a screw !
What do you think ?
It's incredible how a small detail in a JEEP give us the opportunity to discuss between us !! :D :D :D

Hi Charlie,

no problem at all...! Happy if I may help somebody...!

the book is pretty good but in order to make a very good slat restoration the only way possible is to analyse original photos of '40 - '50 period...

Best Regards,

Luigi
