Slat grill Oil pan bolts

Post by mstokes » Mon Dec 17, 2007 9:39 pm

Hi to all,

Ok let's settle a interesting feature of WWII jeeps. How many of us have "EC" or "TR20" oil pan bolts and how many of us have the recessed type oil pan bolts. :? Which ones are correct? If they are correct are they correct for a slatti. My engine came with all "EC" bolts but I have been seeing a lot of pictures of WWII jeeps on the Internet with recessed bolts. Is this a later war thing?

Of the two seemingly intact SGW engines I've handled, one had recessed bolts only where the belt shield attached and AA everywhere else. The other had all AA (with one rogue TR20).
I honestly don't know what is correct for this application. I don't consider this a sufficiently broad sample to make a declaration that they should be AA (But thats what mine is going together with).

My 12-4-1941 MB has its original engine with all original parts, intake, crossover, pancake air cleaner, TR20 bolts on almost everything, early oil pan, ect....
All of the bolts that hold the oil pan to the block are TR20.
Is this what you are asking?

I believe Ford used recessed head bolts on the pans too, but not sure when nor if it was a monopoly.

Bringing back an old post... I was looking for information on this topic but did not see anything pertaining to slat grill's. Is their any newer information on whether slat grill's used the recessed head bolts on the oil pan???

Thanks,

Mark

Mine were standard TR20 marked bolts. I have a later engine in the 124xxx range and its oil pan bolts were TR20 marked as well.
