Side fill didn't appear until the CJ2A. Some of the early repop tubs had side fill. So it's a CJ2A tub, a repop tub or one that was modified to accept a later tank. Post pictures. The early 1946 CJ2A I owned 40 years ago had a WWII style tub and a top fill tank.

42 MB,

Your gas tank may be side fill, which is not origianl but after the war a lot of bubba's replaced the original gas tank with a CJ2A tank.

Look at the opening in the body, is it factory or bubba?

If is is factory then Seth is correct, if not then the body could be origianl. A picture always helps us help you.

Cheers,
Peter

First post I see; welcome to the forum. As always, I recommend you get a full set of TMs and read them every day before you touch a jeep. Also read Jeep Draw, and this forum. And the books, AAW.
If by Chassis, you mean Frame, Assembly (SNL term; there is nothing on a WW2 jeep called a Chassis), then no, it is impossible for the engine to match the frame on a Willys. On a Ford; they do.
Willys serial numbers for 1942 started at 108000 and ended at 200000. Not 11000 range.
Now, you could have a CJ2A, with a serial number in the 11000 range, from 1946. That seems most likely. And would explain the side gas filler. Post a picture of it and will will know.
And it is also impossible for it to have a side fuel tank; what they said above. But I actually do have a 43 GPW with a side fill tank; some idiot welded a filler tube on it and cut a hole just above the shovel. Bubba.
