Water pump pulley?

Post by Adam » Sat Mar 12, 2022 8:35 am

Could this be a slatty pulley on a later water pump? Was this design pulley ever produced in the later years?

I have seen many cast pulleys on water pumps with a heater tap on them. In fact I scrapped a couple two weeks ago.

At one point in time on the G, these cast pulleys were seen as gold... keyed ignition, locking glove box lock type gold.

That said, it all changed and I think they lost their value, which is fair enough as they (the cast pulley) don't seem uncommon... or are they?

I did wonder whether there was a feature on the 'slat' ones that differed from the others seen about the place, but never knew. Happy to be educated.
Possibly this is it: 636299 casting. This thread is interesting. viewtopic.php?t=166858

I do note, that a seller in College Station has listed cast pulleys as NOS for $24.50 on the auction site! A far cry from one which sold on here years ago for about 25x that price! viewtopic.php?t=150983 .That said too, the link makes mention of a casting number in the pulley validating the earliness, which the $24.50 ones seem to lack in their images online!

And then when did cast pulleys end? MB 131175 was asking me....

All very interesting....

Thanks,
Ian.

I think The water pump in that pic is an original casting, I did send the number to somebody, never got to take it off. will have to look at the pulley. That engine came from an old timer that had barns full of parts, most of his assembled jeeps had tons of early parts on them. Now i also see this type of pulley on new production pumps, maybe overseas, will have to find that post.
