M10 Tank Destroyer Vignette

Post by SGM (ret) » Thu Dec 23, 2021 12:06 pm

So, I'm a total eff'ing new guy here. I have surfed around these forums for years though (the old site and now the new one) while doing research on this or that project.

I'm an avid militaria collector, and I actually pulled the trigger and joined the forums because I'm now working on restoring an SCR-610 radio set for my collection and wanted to be able to reach out some of the more knowledgeable folks here about the details for that.

However, I also build scale models (mostly of military related subjects). I thought I might try sharing one of my more recent builds as I try to learn the posting procedures and work my posting status up from "that guy who has to have every post prior approved."

For those interested in the wonky model geek details: This is the relatively new Tamiya M10 in 1/35 scale. The model has only had a few details added from what comes in the box. I did replace the tracks with the rubber chevron type from DML since the subject vehicle was equipped with those. The figures are completely stock as they come with the kit. The unit depicted is the 634th TD BN as seen in and around Aachen in the autumn of 1944.

I see that post worked out pretty well, so here's the companion display piece that goes with the M10 - It's potential adversary...

This is the German Panther or Panzerkamphfwagen V, Ausfeurung G as might have been produced in the autumn of 1944 and deployed in the vicinity of Aachen and West Wall. The tank depicted is from one of the German Army (Wehrmacht) Panzer Brigades or Regiments that were rushed to the front to try and hold the US advance.

The model-geek speak stuff: This is one of the DML Panther kits with the full after-market accessory treatment - Fruil metal tracks, all the photo-etched bits and pieces, metal gun barrels from RB Models, etc. The "ambush" factory-applied camouflage pattern was done through the Ushi v. Rosten laser cut masks.

Congratulations for your very realistic models.
I’m sure that there is a lot of work and patience in these models.

Thanks, Yves!

Like all of our hobbies, it's a pastime that's as much or more about "the doing" (the process) than about the results (the product). I'd guess that I don't spend much more time that anyone else here who's really engaged with their own projects.
