Metal earth models

Post by D_Conrad » Fri Feb 12, 2021 5:25 am

Just recently started these. Built this BF109 last night, took about an hour and a half. LOTS of small pieces but very fun. They have quite a few WWII and modern vehicles. Aircraft, tanks and a g503! I have a B-17 and a color B-24 up as well.

This post caused me to look up the company and 'voil'a'...I have ordered 4 models! I received a Christmas gift of the wood model kit 'Army Field Car' by ROKR (mostly written in an Asian language, not sure which) which is actually a GAZ 67B in 1:18 scale. Wood and metal models that appear to be very precise laser cut pieces. Certainly a different challenge than traditional plastic models.

I built the metal earth USS Arizona several years age. very challenging and you need a lot of patience and steady hands to do. I have the ww11 jeep model on the shelf and will get o it at some point. very nice models. you can see the small scale of these models

This one was 1 sheet and took me about an hour and a half to build. Several very tiny pieces. If you order these I suggest pplliers, side cutters and round nose pliers. I got mine from a jewlery makers set at walmart for about 18 bucks. They worked well. The B-17 is 2 sheets and the B-24 is 3 sheets. I'm going to do a couple more smaller, easier ones before I tackle the larger ones haha

Finished my second one tonight. It was more difficult than the BF109 for sure. M4 Sherman.

I got my 4 metal earth kits yesterday (Fokker Dr.1, Model T, Model A and jeep) and began the T....wow, talk about small parts! Need to be careful not to bend sheet while removing piece from sprue.

You have done a masterful job and must have natural patience. Me?...not so much!

Thank you! They can be very challenging. I have been making good use of my tools haha. As far as removing the pieces, I use a pair of side cutters. It helps quite a bit. Round one pliers help a lot for rounding parts, and I have curved and straight needle nose pliers with no teeth. Got them all at walmart for about 20 bucks in the jewlery section.

Finished the B-17! Definitely the most challenging one. Quite a few small parts and pieces, the turrets were all difficult. Pleased with how it turned out though!

Has anyone done the jeep yet?
Edit: Just looked it up and it says this model has been retired!

I think I saw one at Hobby Lobby last time I was there, need to go see if they still have it.
