Danbury Mint Jeeps

Post by jag » Tue Sep 22, 2009 7:32 am

I have recently managed to pick up 2 Danbury Mint 1/16th Jeep models - the standard version with machine gun and the rocket launcher version. They would have to be the most accurately detailed Jeep model I have seen. Does anyone know if they made other varieties; how many made; are they still in business?
thanks,
John

Hi,
I did own both models, they are definatly a limited edition but cannot remember the number. They came with a certificate.Mine were around £100 GBp around 10 years ago. They came with attachments, machine guns, etc.I recently,i say recently, probarly 2 years ago sold them both for £450 GBP.They are sought after over here.I believe they never made anymore and the rocket launcher was a less edition made than the other jeep.

When I bought mine in 98-99 the rocket launcher jeep had just come out. Danbury is still in business, but the jeeps have long since been out of production. Did yours come with the styrofoam case and "title" . I think I bought mine new was 120.00 US. I was 14 and I think it took me 3 months to save that much, lol Not cheap but sure nice!!!

Thanks for the tip, I picked up a couple of differnt documents missing from my model box. One thing I am trying to work out is the date of the Jeep modelled for the standard canvas top Danbury model.
It appears to be a later type Willys with the late type spare wheel bracket and foot, and the rotary type light switch which was introduced in mid 44. It also has the two rear reflectors set low and the trailer socket. What is interesting is that the rifle rack/bracket was introduced in 1943 and is not present on the model.
