WTB 6.5 NA not derated HMMWV engine

Post by ida34 » Mon Sep 05, 2022 8:35 pm

I have a 1997 M1097A2 that needs an engine. I am not looking for the derated engine that replaced the 6.2 in the earlier HMMWVs. I want the non-turbo 6.5. I just need a good long block. I have all the accessories including a good injection pump, so the engine does not need to have an injection pump. I will be going to Redball on Saturday and can pick up there if we make a deal. I will also be at Portland Indiana show. Let me know.

Thanks
Chuck

The derating of the HMMWV 6.5's was done in the injection pump. They have the same bottom end as the turbo engines with oil cooled pistons.

That is what I thought but was not sure. Since my pump is working just fine that makes any 6.5 work for me. I do have a 6.2 in a can but I will only use it as a last resort.

Im not a expert but on my 6.2 chevy i had to have the pump recalibrated when going to a 6.5 to make it run good.

I have a 6.5L Turbo long block, a 4L80E TCM, and most of the parts needed to convert the doghouse opening, in the FL panhandle about 2.5hrs from NOLA. If you just want the 6.5l I can separate from the 4L80E.

Also have new oil pan.

Is the 6.5 turbo and non turbo using the same pistons?

Have you checked local junk yards?
