4spd plus overdrive?

My M1165 shifts 5 times when getting on a highway from a dead stop. Imagine my surprise when I only expected 4 shifts!
I did not realize they are 4 speeds plus overdrive!

I’ve had a Humvee of one sort or another since 1989
and I always fantasized about a fourth gear.

You dont feel 5 “shifts”. If you did, then you would have 5 speeds + overdrive...,
You feel..
1-2
2-3
3-4
4-overdrive

That means you only ferl 4 shifts.

On another brand diesel I have...has a 4 speed, and when it shifts to fourth, after that ....You feel what feels like a shift, but its the torque converter lockup.

Exactly. That is what he feels. But if he felt 5 shifts, that would be 5 gears + overdrive. It doesn’t start in 0 gear.
