body/tub weight

Post by ohiohmmwv » Tue May 18, 2021 5:42 am

I’m pulling off the tub this week. I tried Google and also searching the forum for tub weight but couldn’t find one. Anyone have any estimates on what it weighs? Completely bare, no seats, roof, doors, etc.

No answer on weight, but i bought a harborgreight gantry crane and chain hoist. Very easy to use and didnt have to worry about someones hands slupping, or tripping on tires. I sold the crane when finished. I was out a couple hindred for piece of mind.
And i picked the body up and installed on chassis by myself.

I probably have the same setup you had. I’m just wondering how much I can add to the tub before it starts to get too heavy to lift.

I had the dash all put together and wiring harness and seats in.
From memory, a BARE body is around the 500-700 pound range. I have seen 6 guys pick one up and move it. That just gets hard to walk around the tires. With the hoist, before touchdown, you can insert the 6 body mount bolts loosely with nuts, to help guide the body perfectly down.
The HF crane has a 2,000 # rating. That is plenty.

I should probably be fine with rear sponsons and a couple of the inner footwell armor pieces then. I’ll really have to support the rear end though so it doesn’t get a chance to sag. I figure best attachment point would be the b channel, then secondarily attach to rear hoops in the back to keep the tail up?

For the rear, I ran 2 ratchet straps to the d-rings in the bed, near the tailgate. And a strap or 2 around the a-beam through the doghouse hole. The middle, you can go around the b-pillar bracing behind the front seats.
Attach rear straps to the point you are lifting, not the crane itself.

I was told many years ago it was 548lbs...I can lift the body up and store them on its side, little tougher coming down, but I’ve done it.
