armor

Anyone know why they eliminated the bolt when they added this layer of armor? Seems kind of random.

Maybe it whistled if the fresh air vent was open. Kind of like the 3rd clamp on the air filter can. Has anyone compared that with and without the clamp?

Yeah both sides eliminated that bolt. They tried to save on weight with all that extra armor I guess so they eliminated a bolt and nut. If anything I would have guessed adding more fasteners not less for the extra weight. I’m no engineer though.

I was looking for another missing bolt on that cowl. It would make sense to leave 2 bolts to hold the 1st layer of armor in place. Then have a cutout on the back side of the outer layer, to clear the bolt heads. It would be quite difficult to keep all of that in place to get bolts put in....

Edit: there should be 3 bolts below the hinge block.

I thought the exact same thing when I was putting that area together. So you could layer them on one at a time. The armor is such a crazy jigsaw. It reminds me of those Chinese wooden ball puzzles.

Is there a recess on back side of the thick pverlay? To clear a bolt head ?

There is a recess and I thought at first it would clear the bolt and it would if you didn’t put the underbody piece there. The hollowed out portion is there just to make room for the underbody layer that tucks up underneath though.

It looks like there is a hole for the bolt head...you may need to remove the thick hardened washer, though.
It also has a recess where the bolts are under the door hinge block.

Ah, you’re correct. I was messing with it yesterday and didn’t look close enough cause I was juggling holding on all the pieces at once.

There’s enough clearance to keep the hardened washer in too
