Gunners platform install

Post by 96hmmwv » Sun Jan 23, 2011 9:41 am

I have been digging through tech manuals, and I can't find anything on how to install it. Does anyone have a TM number that has an install directions or at least where to drill the holes for the base plates. Also still on the hunt for the armament mount for the turret, the swiss cheese style.

There are no measurements in the TM for this as it's not something that is commonly fitted in the field, it a factory fit item.
All you'll find in the TM's is the parts list and instructions on how to R&R.

You'll need to get a measurement off a truck with one fitted.

It needs to be centered over the cross beams that are under the floor above the trans and xcase. be careful drilling thru. On the one closest to the fuel filler I found some kind of vent line or something running thru there. I'm glad I didn't drill thru it cause I'd hate to have to replace that line, whatever it is.

It's not super critical where it goes as long as it's over those braces. I wish I had moved mine back a little further cause it's very close to my radio stack and when standing on it you can come very close to kicking all the connections on the front of the KY-57 box.

you can see one of these beams in the top of this frame. Alex's pic.

Thanks, I will look at the cross members and see what is attached to them. I will just center it up to my turret.

The piece of wood that goes around it will help locate it, and the wood panel also helps locate the dual ammo can carrier.
I've seen the wood panel on Ebay.

As it happens,I removed my Gunners platform tonight to do some work/cleaning.
So I thought I'd take some pics sowing where the holes are.

I put a long steel rule hard up against the dog house cover:

The distance to the front mount holes:

To the rear bolt holes:

Whilst the lateral position should be obvious as the bolt Holes are through the raised sections, here is a pic showing the measurement using the centre of the cargo tie down as a reference:

to the right hole:

I hope this helps

Thanks for the measurements. I will be installing it this weekend. I got hung up putting together a set of 24 bolt rims.

With 96 bolts to do, I can imagine that could take a while! :D

Does anyone know the part number for the plywood that is used to go around the platform?

Depends on which one you want. There are several versions.

So are 5, 8 , and 10 the ones with the right cutout? When I saw they said rear, I just skipped over them.

Or I could just get #4 and push it up against the dog house, between the radio tray feet and the platform mounts behind it, right?

And am I then understanding it right that 5,8, or 10 go behind (and somewhat around) the platform into the rear passenger area?
