M1151 turret install
I am putting together a genuine ECG m1151 hmmwv. Right now I have the entire 1151 slant back installed minus the turret. ,I have the correct turret and hatch, and am using the correct one piece roof. However, the turret bearing, and mounting ring are too big and fall right through the roof. It seems that there is some large circular mount that fits under the roof. It's confusing because the tm's have so man configurations. I will post some pics soon of what I already have. Please help.

Re: M1151 turret install
There is a turret undersupport ring that mounts to the one piece aluminum roof. The bearing and all of the subsequent weapons station parts mount to it. It has a flange that sits on the roof and bolts to it. It is rare in the surplus parts game. I do not have a pic, but could take one.
Thanks,
Freddie

I believe he's the new owner of Ted G's lovely hand built ECV truck.

Re: M1151 turret install
Yes, he's correct. It started out as Ted's A-2 ECV. Its been going through some major mods. I started out with a standard slant back and then got a hold of the aluminum roof set up and tore it apart again. It has new style square cornered sponsons and roof. here are some pics.

- These mounts are the correct pieces but two of them don't even touch the roof and cannot figure out how they are affixed.

It almost looks like you could set an M66 ring mount there. I am sure not, but it looks like it.

Re: M1151 turret install
You mean the old style turret support ring? This is under the turret plate itself in the picture #3. That support normally hooks up to the support pillars, which I no longer have as they are built into the roof and come down the side. There must be another larger round ring that bolts inside the roof from underneath.....

- There is no place to attach the old style turret support ring underneath this roof.

The hole in the roof is about 1.5" larger in diameter than the standard roof I used before.

Re: M1151 turret install
I'll try to take a pic for you, but like I said, there is a round weapons station insert that has a flange that lays over the roof and then drops down through the hole. That insert is machined aluminum and has the same dimensions as the older style turret undersupport (like the one laying against the wall). Imagine the old style turret undersupport with no arms that extend out toward the windshield, no arms extending out toward the b-pillars and no arms extending out toward the c-pillar (perfectly round), but has a flange (with mounting holes to match those drilled in your roof) on the top edge that allows you to mount it to the roof.....then the bearing mounts to it normally, as there is a second set of mounting holes to mount the normal weapons station parts. The lock ring sections mount in the channel as normal as the inside diameter of this insert is the same as the old turret undersupport to allow interchangability of parts.
It was a very expensive part when I bought my blem m1151 roof over in Indiana. You know, they make an aluminum blank as well that covers that hole in case you don't find that turret support insert right away. Those tend to be plentiful.
Hope this helps til I can get a pic for you or someone finds it in the TMs. I have never seen the correct exploded diagram in the TMs.
Thanks,
Freddie

Also, those b-pillar channels and b-pillar close out panels are nice. They are expensive to order, but nice.

Re: M1151 turret install
I have this plate that I took all my turret parts off of that was for a big truck.
The plate had all the newer round turret stuff same as Humvee.
1st photo is when I got it, second is when I stripped it.
If you can't find the right one, this one might be able to be modified to work...its 1/2 inch aluminum.
