M1025 (mod) up armoured identification help

Post by eliongater » Sat Oct 28, 2023 4:37 pm

Hey Team, I’m looking to find some more info about our M1025. Specifically what armour kit does it have and is it actually an M1025 or closer to another model? It feels like it should be an A1, but isn’t based on the model/year.
It was purchased from AM General around the year 2000 I believe as an ex demonstrator.
The data plate says TRUCK, UTILITY: ARMT CARR, UP-ARMD, 4X4, W/E (HMMWV) M-1025 (MOD) with a gross weight of 10300 lbs.
It has what I believe are called high back seats and an airlift bumper, are there any other interesting options fitted?
Thanks in advance for your help.
The closest I’ve been able to find is this one built from parts: https://www.usedh1.com/2001-hmmwv-m1025-a2-up-armored/

Very interesting truck you have.

Very few were released fully equipped as yours so not much feedback available as some have been built up piece by piece literally.
Not sure what you paid but probably won the lottery.

Thanks for the response JuanPrado.

Agreed that it’s very interesting, which is why I’m trying to figure out what exactly it is (and what armour kit it has).
My understanding is it was used by AM General as a demonstrator, but spec wise it doesn’t seem to match a standard M1025. Any suggestions on parts/things to look for?

It used to be my grandfather’s but unfortunately he’s in a care home and I can’t ask him for the details.

I remember seeing that setup and I don't think it was from AM General. I'm sure someone else on here will know what the company that did the armoring is or was named.

I have never seen that ball trailer hitch on it.
I assume it a custom deal as military typically do not use balls.
If you could post more pics of it and underneath, please.
What is the blue data plate on the rear bumper by the hitch?

Based on this site: https://www.usedh1.com/2001-hmmwv-m1025-a2-up-armored/
It looks like the armour kit is from O’gara-Hess & Eisenhardt

The tow ball is presumably custom, the blue data plate is from a local engineer firm certifying the tow ball (and presumably pintle hook) which is required in NZ as the vehicle is classed as a truck/heavy vehicle.
@JuanPrado, when you say more photos and photos underneath do you mean of the vehicle as a whole or just the tow ball setup?

It definitely looks like a cross over of a proto type armor on the M1025/6 that eventually came out on the M1114 to M1152. I do remember getting some of the doors earlier in the war in 2004 when I was downrange. Those doors we mounted them on regular HMMWV until we received the M1114. Nice find. I like the doors. That armor in the front and hood was a idea to say.

Thanks for posting.

I did not realize you were in New Zealand. That explains alot as trucks here have to be demiiled which in the USA includes removing armour and weapon components.

I am just curious on the rest of the trailer hitch frame as it looks more robust than the ones I have seen custom built here.
