m1151 with large bft radio tray setup

Post by ohiohmmwv » Sun Sep 08, 2019 8:05 am

So I’m working on getting the wooden tunnel cover screwed down. I also have already setup the nutserts in the tunnel and A beam bracket for the large bft radio tray. With this setup does the radio tray simple bolt right through the wooden tunnel boards? I have the reinforcement plate for under the tray as well. Does that get eliminated? Or is there a shorter wooden piece other than the one I have? Check out the pic. I still have the non turbo cover in place but you’ll get the idea. Currently there would be quite a bit of overlap of radio tray over the plywood piece.

To clarify I’ll be putting in the bft tray meant to fit over the turbo cover-the later version

I did mine in a non standard fashion. I have the big Radio Shelf for the BFT Setup and mounted it onto a modified Humvee seat adjustment assy. It allows me to unbolt the Shelf from the Bracket up on the A Beam and move it back far enough to allow for Turbo Engine Cover Removal without having to unbolt the heavy Shelf. If your vehicle has been driven to work out any engine bugs, then maybe this is not too useful.

That’s a cool idea. I’m working hard to keep it original though. I can’t find any good pics yet online

Hello Ohio, I have some pictures of the set-up your talking about. The large late turbo radio shelf, bolts to the tunnel board and does not use the spacer in the M1165's at my location. The tunnel board for that configuration also has six holes for mounting that shelf, just plywood so drill away. I will try to post a picture for you if i get some time, or you can PM me with contact number and I'll text you the picture your needing.

Best of luck, Mike
