Morgan Hill's 4th July parade HYBRID style

Post by Kim Sievert » Tue Jun 09, 2020 12:19 am

From Morgan Hill Parade Officials..........
""Hi Morgan Hill Parade Participants,

In just a few weeks this country will celebrate its Independence Day, a day that has profound importance to all its citizens and especially this community which has had a July 4th parade for 145 straight years. However, the health and safety of our community is top of mind for us as well as I am sure for all of you. For 3 months our committee has been working on a plan A, B, and now C and D. Unfortunately, our traditional parade will not occur this year, however our committee has a plan D plan that will allow our community to celebrate this patriotic
this patriotic day without putting any risk on our children, seniors, or the community in general. We are thrilled to say we now have a finalized plan. It's called a Hybrid Parade.

Please note that the Independence Day Committee will be providing our official plan for the entire July 4th celebration in the next 7 days. We are sending this note privately to you, our past parade participants, since we have a lot to do in the next few weeks. A public statement will be coming out shortly.

Depending on the type of entry we have specific plans for the next 2-3 weeks:

Vehicle Entries: We are going to ask any group that wants to participate to sign-up for a time slot where you will come to a particular road (which will be closed). You will bring your vehicle fully decorated and drive that road just like it was July 4th parade waiving out the window etc. We will record you from a few different angles. Then you go home.

Marching Groups: If you are a marching group such as the Boy Scout Troop or Blue Star Moms, we will line you up 12 ft apart (chalk marks on the street) on that same closed road at a scheduled time, and you will walk for ~40 ft keeping distance and waiving again just like it was July 4th. You will be recorded as you march from multiple angles. Then you go home. We are still working with health officials on proper procedures for this, but please sign-up

Horse Group: If you are a horse group, you will decorate your horses and yourselves and march at your own ranch. We will come to you and record that performance at your ranch.

Bands: We are hoping we can do either a virtual recording session from band members homes or perhaps a subset of the band can perform at a practice facility keeping full physical separation and we can record there. This will be a case-by-case basis and something we can discuss on the phone. For high school band groups, we would very much like graduating seniors to participate as their final performance.
We then have our famous announcers who will be doing voice over commentary on all of your entries just like we would on July 4th from our announcing stands.

Take all of these items (and a few surprises we have planned) and with the help of a professional TV editor we then broadcast on July 4th a ‘live’ parade. We hope this will feel like watching the Rose Bowl Parade or Macy’s Day parade from the comfort of your own home.

We know this is very different than what we have done for 145 straight years, but we also believe this is the safest way to celebrate this holiday as a community.

So what’s next if you are interested:

There is some new language you need to agree to, specifically saying you allow yourself to be recorded and provide information about how you want to participate. Once you are accepted I will email you a set of time slots that are available for you to pick from (first come first serve). Pick the slot that works for you.""

Since I am POC for the MVCC at this parade, I NEED to know if you want to participate in this years 4th of July hybrid parade.
They are busting their asses, to make this happen, lets not disappoint them by wimping out.
