April 2020 dates? NOTE: APRIL 2020 MEET CANCELLED DUE TO VIRUS

Post by Chuck Lutz » Wed Oct 30, 2019 11:49 am

I don't believe I have seen anything on it yet, but I think that the dates are April 14-19 for 2020...any confirmation on that yet?

Plymouth is starting to grow on me after the great weather we had (after the Wednesday afternoon rain event)!

The MVCC link shows the 2020 Plymouth meet as "April 16th - 20th"....since the 16th is a Thursday and the 20th is a Monday.....I would like clarification if that is in fact the actual dates we have reserved Plymouth for????

Same dates as 2019. Sounds less than convincing.

MVCC Spring Meet official dates are April 14-19. That means people will start showing up a coupe of days before that, and April 12 is Easter Sunday. Look for an official registration form in the next MVCC newsletter.

Hopefully the MVCC website dates for 2020 that are incorrect have been changed! I know some guys who actually are still working and have to bid for vacation time need to know ASAP!

See you guys in April 2020...

Hey Chuck, as long as you get the week correct do the dates really mean anything? There's a good number of us who show up the Sunday of that week and don't leave until the Sunday of the following week. People want to make an major issue about the dates, get the week right and show up when you want to!

Dates were corrected on the club website. Also there are many details on the Event forum now.

Dates are required on the event and car show calendars I post info on. They are also important for several other reasons:
  • Nearly all events have an official start and end date, especially medium to large events
  • Getting the start away from the previous weekend is important because it confuses some. For example saying Sunday to Sunday, even verbally, will cause some to write the first Sunday date on their calendar (or cocktail napkin). Then they show up the first Sunday expecting a big event. Ten campers are there. Same kind of thing will happen if Monday is the start day. Why encourage these mistakes when we don't have to? Saying Tuesday is "Set Up Day" makes sense, since a lot of setting up is happening in the afternoon. Sales goods are on tables and MVs are being dressed.
  • Since the RV village half of the venue has a four night camping minimum, some people book Tuesday to Saturday departure if they have a long drive home or the common Wednesday to Sunday departure, and the equally common five night stay starting Tuesday. Hardcore ones stay six or seven. Tuesday is the ideal start day.
  • This discussion is moot because after a serious discussion the MVCC Board voted to make the meet officially Tuesday to Sunday, advertising Tuesday as "Set Up Day" and Sunday as a "pull out day" wherever there is enough space to say all that.
As Kurt said, regulars come and go when they want. Some arrive Sunday or Monday to watch the buildup and get set up before parts start coming out of pickups, so they can join the feeding frenzy instead of levelling the RV and setting up the BBQ. We get the group discount at the 49er several days before and after our meet. Some take advantage of that to play tourist before or after the meet. The Plymouth area has lots of things to see and do.

FYI if you run across an online event or car show calendar listing and it only shows one date, it is because that site's policy is to only show a date range for promoters who buy an enhanced advertising program. So far we have stuck with free online advertising. The MVCC likes to save money for more important things. So in that case I will show the date as Thursday. It's a strange date for a public event, so I figure someone will investigate our website to make sure. Then they will read the real story. If someone doesn't do that and shows up Thursday, they will be happy to see the place full and they could return another one or two days. Hopefully there will be a camp space open for them at the fairgrounds if they want.
