Camp Plymouth SPRING 2022 Swap Meet & MV Show April 26-30, 2022

Post by John Neuenburg » Wed Oct 13, 2021 3:36 pm

The biggie returns to 49er RV Village Resort and adjacent Amador County Fairgrounds the last week of April 2022! Scenic, quaint Plymouth in the Shenandoah Valley Wine Country in the low California foothills will see more hunters of olive drab, forest green, and battleship gray artifacts than they saw gold miners in 1849! This is the 45th anniversary of the MVCC and as usual it will be the largest annual MV event West of the Mississippi. Former annual Spring events were The Patterson Rally, Big Bear Park, Camp Delta at Tower Park, Camp Petaluma, and in April 2019 we moved to Plymouth. We finally found a place with lots of close-in visitor parking! For those unfamiliar with this event, here are the bullet points:
  • ]Swap meet for pros and amateurs. No vendor fee but must rent a campsite or cabin
Informal military vehicle show. All welcome, any condition, any country of former service
    No admission fee
    No MV registration fee
No parking fee. Trailer area designated
Display/parking space for those commuting from hotel or home in MVs
NOTE: practically no visitor parking inside the 49er RV park
    MV Poker Rally
    Another MV excursion Saturday afternoon
    Women's activities
MV showcases Friday will be Ford GTB Cargo & Bomb Trucks, POC is Don Gomes; M151 series MUTTs and Variants, POC is Mike Fedyk; and on Thursday, Barn Finds, POC is Chris Thomas. The latter one is to honor the 45 years of hobbyists saving ex-military vehicles. This one is for unrestored MVs saved from the scrapper's torch. Running or not! Do you have one MV that will qualify to be in two showcases?
Willard Reproduction 6v Battery Cover Discussion Group & Display on Friday. Meet the creator. Friday morning next to GTB display
Annual raffle, a fundraiser for the extremely non-profit promoter, the Military Vehicle Collectors of California
RV and travel trailer camping only at the 49er, no tents at 49er except free standing canopies for vending, displays
Tent and car camping is at the adjacent fairgrounds
Souvenir event and MVCC merchandise booth
MVCC General Membership Meeting, all welcome (Camp Plymouth is not just for MVCC members but we welcome all into our club and to the meeting)
Amenities for 49er guests include pool, spa, cafe, kids play area, washers and dryers, restrooms, showers
    Hotels, B&Bs are nearby
Grocery store, restaurants, 40+ wineries, and an auto parts store are close

Visitor parking and the fairgrounds campground are at 18843 Empire Street
MVCC has arranged a discounted block of RV sites and cabins at the 49er. Four night minimum at the 49er. Our rate will be good for several days before and after our event, for those using the place as a base for tourism. You must go through Jo-Ann Lesser to reserve a space in our block, not the 49er office. Jo-Ann gives the 49er office a list of who reserved what site in our block. You then contact them to confirm and pay for your site.

She also organizes the large campground at the fairgrounds of mostly dry sites and one row of water/power sites. No minimum stay at the fairgrounds. For fairgrounds sites, pay the MVCC in full before you arrive. Sellers will be in both venues.

For campsite and cabin information, Jo-Ann is at MVCCCampmistress@yahoo.com

Reservation form for both campgrounds is in the newsletter and on www.mvccnews.net on the event calendar listing. If you rented a space in April 2021, your name is on it now. Tell Jo-Ann to confirm you want it again or request a change. There will be a deadline. Unclaimed sites will be turned back to the 49er system. Where you were at the last Fall meet does not put your name on that site for the Spring meet.

Tuesday is considered a set up day. Sunday is a pull-out day, not a show day.

An activities schedule and other details are at www.mvccnews.net.

Shameless picture of this writer's fleet and trinkets the September 2021 Camp Plymouth. We hear the 49er has more land and plans expansion, likely more pull through sites and cabins. We don't know when...

The infamous jeep showcase in the arena in 2019. I think 65 here and 10 or 12 elsewhere in camp

Don Gomes is coordinating a Ford GTB Cargo & Bomb Truck Showcase! at Camp Plymouth. There have been a number of these rescued by Don and others in recent years. Maybe we will see the more local ones at this event.

Since we don't usually get British or Canadian trucks at this meet, pretty much all the trucks with a face only a mother could love will be in the fairgrounds arena on Friday 0900-1200!

Correct to this flyer - showcase is 0900-1200.

Right after that at 1 pm there will be M151 MUTT and Variants Showcase in the arena. All MUTTs welcome, any condition. Mike Fedyk is POC.

Just added a third showcase to the original post: Barn Finds to honor the 45 years of MVers saving ex-military vehicles. This one is for unrestored MVs saved from the scrapper's torch. Running or not! Maybe you have one MV that will qualify to be in two showcases? That's a "two-fer!" This one is Thursday. Chris Thomas is POC.

No info about awards or sponsors yet.

I will edit the original post on this thread if any updates.

Just added an item to the schedule: Willard Reproduction 6v Battery Cover Discussion Group & Display. Meet the creator, Robert Lentz. We are looking for some MVs that carry his battery setups, or units built by the company that is taking over production. Let me know if you can display your MV with either battery.

There is a long discussion about the development of these shells on the jeep technical forum. Here is a link, see the meeting announcement on page 21:
