Wooden cab mount blocks

Post by awddouglas » Tue May 30, 2023 11:03 am

Got some of the front body mounting blocks made but i dont know which way round they go as they were missing from mine when i took the body off. Intuitively:
- the long flat edge against the chassis,
- the angled edge against the outer body,
- the wide end at the back,
- the narrow end at the front

Is this right?

Also, for the steering wheel, is the hole supposed to be tapered as the steering column appears to be......

Thanks

The blocks can only go one way; the angles of the blocks fit into the corner of the cab. look at the WC52 restoration web site and he has a diagram of them. Yes the steering wheel socket is tapered.
I can't find the drawing now but I used it last year to make and install my blocks on my WC63. If you look at the blocks and the way the cab is tapered underneath you will see how they go.

I was just looking at my copies of the wood block photos I have. Here they are:

I make the blocks but do not drill the hole. Set the cab (which weighs nothing) on the block; mark the hole location. Remove and drill. Can't go wrong that way.
