dodge frame

Post by yoeri » Tue Aug 23, 2022 9:43 am

hi ,

looking for the easiest way to get the plate closing the 3th crossmember ( if it is the correct word) out ( after the rivets have been removed)

or a good way to derust without removing it if there is one

Getting out rust between riveted plates is impossible. And even if you did, the parts would be loose. Either remove them and sand blast them, and re-rivet; or leave them alone.

Set up a Kiddy pool with one side raised insert a Fountain pump in the low end, run the outlet hose up to part to be derusted, put a gallon or more of Evaporust or similar chelating agent like Oxalic acid in the pool, let it pump for about 8 hours, no more rust. phosphate coating, you can let it dry and paint over it, or scrub, prime and paint.

PS: Do I have to say, place the pool under the dripping fluid so it will go back through the pump....a rag placed on either side of a frame before the end of the pool will cause stray runs to drip down VS continuing along the piece. WAW

was already afraid it would get loose that way.
already removed the reinforcing plates on the sides of the wc64kd and cleaned up rust so will have to do the same with the crossmember.
the plate is bent 90 degrees at the ends, looking for best ways to get it out as i think that it was originally rivetted on the cross member before that was put in the frame.
