Hi all,
I have to replace the windshield glass on my WC52.
Firstly, how do you remove the inner frame?
and
Secondly, how do you remove the glass?

Hello, Eric! The inner windshield is hinged at the top portion where it meets the outer frame. Using dishwashing soap/water as a lubricant, and a friend to hold the frame secure, the inner frame should be 'slid' out sideways from that top hinge. Take your time and use patience.

The (2) inner glass pieces slide down into the inner windshield frame. Once the top nuts/screws are removed, the top channel is removed, and the glass can then be pulled out from the inner frame.

also note the inner screen slides out only one way.

cant remember which way but if you look at the outside of the outer frame, only one side has a depression in it where the hinge is. the screen slides in the direction of the depression.....

and at the risk of stating the obvious, the inner screen frame needs to be at 90 degrees or more to the outer screen frame.

i just finished rebuilding mine and also replaced one glass pane....

I just did my WC63 Windshield. (no screen in mine).
The depression on the main frame to remove the inner frame is on the Driver's side.
Child can do it. Maybe a 12 year old.
Get some glass setting tape from Ron; the new stuff is not like the old Everseal; it is adhesive backed and is very easy. Get the glass cut by your local glass shop. 1/4 safety glass of course.
How it is assembled is intuitive if you look at the screws holding it together.
You can do it.

Thanks guys.
I have removed the inner frame and started on the glass. Lubrication certainly helped.
It looks like I have to destroy the glass to remove it from the inner frame.
What are the dimensions of the glass?

cheers

There Is only one tool needed to remove old glass; BFH.
Glass size; your glass shop will know; take the frame to them. They know how much clearance to leave for the tape. You want glass cut to fit YOUR frame; not someone else's.
And yes, use lots of Dawn to install the glass. it is easy.

I measured the glass and I make it to be 24 3/4 inch by 14 inch and 1/4 inch thick.
Can anyone confirm this?

What is "Dawn"? I am in Australia.

for what it is worth, i removed mine also with the help of a hammer but had one long and one short side intact, so i measured it (a few times just to check) and when i got my replacement cut to my measurements, it didnt fit. It was too short..... :o

So the advice to take the frame and have the glass cutter measure it, if possible, is not a bad idea.

I also dont know what 'Dawn' is but to get the rubber and the glass in, i used plenty of red rubber grease and aerosol rubber lubricant.

These are the only before photos I have, they aren't very good but think cracked glass on one pane, no tricos, remnants of rubber seals, rusty as you like and covered in grey paint plus 50 years of dust and general crap......

Here are some 'after' shots. The glass still needs a final clean and the side vacuum pipe needs fitting.....

Overall, pleased with the result.....

Good luck

Dawn is my neighbor lady who has big knockers and likes to help me work on jeeps.
What do you mean "long and short side". Mine are both the same size.
Again, let the glass shop cut the glass to fit your frame; take the frame to them. If you tell them a dimension and it's wrong, it's your fault.
All MV glass that I have installed is 1/4 inch thick. Jeep and Dodge.
(Dawn is actually liquid dish soap. It's the most common brand here. It's green. But any brand of dish soap will work, of course. And it dries and disappears.)
