WC fuel tank mounting

Post by awddouglas » Thu Sep 16, 2021 11:54 am

WC58 was dismantled when i bought it so i have no reference. Trying to fit the fuel tank.

Does the rear end of the lower tank strap sit on top of the rear chassis cross member or below it ?

Or to put it another way, is the assembly order, from the bottom
1. lower strap, chassis cross member, upper strap all fixed in with a bolt through from the underneath to the captive nut on the top strap ....or is it
2. chassis cross member, lower strap, upper strap all fixed in with a bolt through from the underneath to captive nut on top strap

or does it not matter?

thanks

Andrew

i remembered i have a copy of TM9-808 and in there are instructions to remove and refit the tank.

Given this is done with the body in situ, i am guessing the assembly order has to be lower strap, chassis crossmember upper strap so that when you remove the bolt from the strap rear end, the low strap will fall away to allow the tank to be removed from the chassis by dropping it out. I cant imagine they would require the bodv off to remove the tank from above.

That is how I did my -57, the frame is sandwiched between the upper and lower straps.
