WC-56 Command Car

Post by John E Kay » Thu Jul 11, 2019 2:28 pm

Hello, I have just bought a 1944 Command Car and Ben Hur Trailer. I am looking for some owners in the UK to contact for some advice on parts, repairs and paint colour. I live in Manchester UK. The Dodge has been in storage for 22 years, before that it was in a museum in France for a number of years. It is in remarkable condition considering its age, no rust apart from a little surface rust on the rear floor. It has never been registered in the UK so I have sent off my (strange) NOVA1 form last week. Just wondered if anyone lived near to me?
Regards
John

Hi John,

Welcome to the Gee.
I don't know any other owners near your area, but there are some in the Yorkshire area. As you may guess they are not that common.
Spares, Steve Rivers at Dallas Autoparts, or I think Jeepparts may be doing some spares, and I think AMD 4X4 do some 1/4 ton stuff. Are you a meber of the MVT?

Dave

Hi Dave.
I am a member of the MVT. I received my NOVA1 back yesterday so I have sent of for an MVT inspection. I went to War and Peace Revival last week got a lot of spares (stung the first time) and some paint. Also sunburn and stung again by some nasty bugs, boy was it hot! Then the rain on Friday? Home Saturday. I will post some pictures on here when I can get round to it. Thanks for the reply.

Regards

John:
Off Topic for who lives around you, but important lesson for Command Car owners.... Review your TM, and unbutton the sides of the back top BEFORE you attempt to lower it. If you forget to unbutton (at least two) you will stretch and tear the canvas where it fastens at the bottom front of the back door cutaway. Seen it on a few museum pieces, then encountered it slightly on mine with a "that's why they are all torn" idea popping into my head.
TM has the procedure and it's just regular text, easy to miss during regular reading.
Have fun with her!

Hi John,

Good you have joined up, around your area there are a few sections to chose from. It may be one of the Simons that comes to do your inspection.
To far for me W&P, I have been a couple of times, it was dusty. I go to the YWE, it's about 15 miles from home, not as big, but good.
Have you heard of The Yanks Event? it's on in Saddleworth 10th&11th of this month. Not to far for you, have a look, I may be going.
Do you do FB? there's some sites for the Dodge on there.

Regards,
Dave

Thanks for the replies, I have read the section in the TM about the canvas top and will remember that, thank you W. The Yanks event is a major do around here and quite close to home, however so is the Whaley Bridge Toddbrook Reservoir Dam! which is now not going to burst? I try not to do FB. I will try and put some pictures of this Command Car on the forum as I think it is surprising?
